Meet the Board

Our Board guides the day-to-day operations of The Language Table, supporting outreach, fundraising, and volunteer coordination. Each member demonstrates a deep commitment to our shared ideals of community, connection, and lifelong learning in our home of Portland, Maine.

Gerald Gagné - He/Him

Founder/Chair

I began learning languages through friendships with people from Colombia. Those experiences showed me that language learning is, at its core, a social pursuit. The connections I built with kind, open-minded people inspired me to create TLT and share that experience with others.

Andrew Blunt - He/Him

Treasurer

From middle school French to an Arabic school in Jordan, language learning has helped me build community, connect and across cultures,. Through TLT, I'm excited to foster that community in an increasingly multilingual city. I speak French and Spanish; I'm learning Portuguese and Arabic.

Kathryn Nagle - She/Her

Clerk

I am a language learner, who has been an ESOL teacher for many years. I speak French and Mandarin, and I am learning Spanish for my in-laws. I love learning languages as it allows me to connect with new people and new ways of understanding our world. I joined TLT to facilitate the English Table.

Lukas Knight - He/Him

Portuguese Table Head

I speak Portuguese and some Spanish and Dutch. I’ve studied Portuguese for seven years and enjoyed Spanish immersion in Madrid in my first year of college. I’ve been involved with TLT to support the Portuguese Table.

Japanese/Italian Table Head

I joined The Language Table in 2025 as the Italian Table organizer and launched the Japanese Table in 2026. Based in Portland, I am also a writer of novels and short stories.

Social Media Coordinator

I serve on the Outreach and Finance committees. I am driven by a passion for languages and am dedicated to breaking down barriers and ensuring that quality language-learning resources are accessible to everyone, everywhere.

Norina Burch - She/Her

German Table Head

I am a native German speaker and moved to Maine almost 3 years ago. I am also fluent in English, French, and Portuguese, and passionate about languages and language learning. TLT is a great opportunity to connect with people and practice together in a casual setting.

Elizabeth Grear - She/Her

French Table Head

I am passionate about learning languages and continuing to practice them. I teach Spanish and French at Portland High School, and work as an interpreter. I am trying to learn Portuguese right now. You can find me dancing salsa, walking my dogs, and volunteering as a language table leader.

Kerry Anderson - She/Her

German Table Organizer

I teach all levels of German at Maranacook Community High School in Readfield, Maine, where I love helping rural youth access another language and culture. I hold an MA in German and lead an exchange program with a school in Viersen, Germany. I enjoy dancing, reading, and nature walks.

I grew up near Paris and moved to the US. I continued my education and eventually became a French teacher in Maine. I teach at South Portland High School and University of Southern Maine, I love being part of The Language Table community to connect with language learners.

I grew up under the Mediterranean sun and later made Maine home, gaining firsthand experience navigating linguistic and cultural differences. I am passionate about creating space for all to explore language and culture, fostering understanding, connection, and belonging.

Peruvian woman living in Maine with her family. Lawyer by profession, lover of plants, reading, theater, and nature.

Gregg Bradford -  He/Him

Spanish Table Organizer

A transplant from Washington state, I work in language access services as an interpreter and interpreter trainer. I enjoy supporting language access, sharing knowledge with future interpreters, and being part of a community that values communication, understanding, and inclusion.
